 Remeron

Remeron (Mirtazapine)

PURPOSE:
Remeron is an antidepressant medication. Signs of depression include changes in appetite, sleeping patterns, daily activities; fatigue; feelings of worthlessness and guilt; decreased concentration; and suicidal thoughts. Remeron has been shown to be particularly helpful in depression accompanied by agitation, anxiety, and/or sleep disturbance.

SPECIFIC MEDICATIONS: Remeron (Mirtazapine)

SIDE EFFECTS AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Most commonly observed side effects include lethargy, increased appetite, weight gain, and dizziness. Weight gain and increase in appetite are usually during the first 2‑3 months on treatment, and plateau thereafter. Sedation is more common during the first several days after initiation of medication. In pre-marketing trials, 2 out of 2796 patients developed a dangerously low white blood cell count. Although the risk is small, patients should contact their physician immediately if they experience any indication of infection such as fever, chills, sore throat, mucous membrane ulceration, or other possible signs of infection. Remeron is contraindicated in combination with MA0I’s
