Treatment of Pediatric Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

The purpose of this research study is to understand how treatment of childhood posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), resulting from sexual abuse, influences childhood brain and cognitive development.  PTSD is a serious anxiety problem, a disorder that causes children to worry a lot. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), a type of talking therapy where children talk about their thoughts and feelings in order to help them feel better, and a study drug.  CBT is an effective treatment for PTSD.  We know that this type of treatment helps sexually abused children who have PTSD feel better.  This study will provide free CBT treatment to sexually abused children who suffer from PTSD.
