Interventions Education and Research
The Partnership for Excellence in Mental Health Interventions Education and Research
(PREMIER) program is a two-three year fellowship which provides training for qualified minority applicants who seek to become academic mental health interventions researchers. It is designed for:
- Psychiatrists who have completed their residency or fellowship training
or are in their fourth year of residency
- Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurses and
Pharmacologists who have completed their doctoral training
Components of the program include:
- Focus on mental health interventions, including psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and substance abuse interventions
- Individuals are paired up with a mentor in their field of interest
- Individuals are paired up with a minority faculty member as a role mentor
- Exposure to interventions outside the main field of interest
- Off-site experiences such as Morehouse Medical College in Atlanta
- Formal course work through Duke's nationally recognized
Clinical Research Training Program
leading to a Master's Degree in Clinical Research from Duke
- Seminar series tailored to the needs of minority fellows interested in academic careers
Trainees will be at the doctoral level, primarily post-residency psychiatrists and post-doctoral
psychologists, but other doctoral level minorities may also apply, including those who with a D.S.W., D.O., or
Pharm.D.
